Antti Vanhatalo

Antti Vanhatalo has more than 30 years of experience in close protection with the security staff of five Presidents of the Republic of Finland, including 18 years as a supervisor. He served as President Martti Ahtisaari’s security chief in Vienna during Ahtisaari’s UN assignment in 2006–2007. Before close-protection work, Vanhatalo served in the police special unit Karhu.

Vanhatalo has studied the history of presidential close-protection officers over more than a hundred years. He graduated from the police command programme and holds a master’s degree in administrative sciences. In September 2026 his book Henkivartijat – Presidentin turvallisuusvartioston tarina (Otava) is published. The book tells the story of the presidential security detail and the human side of the work: trust, closeness, and moments when a close-protection officer does far more than protect.

As a speaker Antti helps leaders and workplaces build a culture of safety that holds under pressure, change, and conflict. He talks about trust, open communication, and sound preparedness, drawn from exceptionally demanding assignments. Lectures are available from 15 September 2026.
